How to Change the Player Limit on Your Don't Starve Together Server

Learn how to adjust the maximum number of players allowed on your DST server using the RocketNode panel or manually.

Changing the Player Limit on Your DST Server

The player limit controls how many users can connect to your server at once. You can change this easily from the RocketNode panel, or manually through the config file.

Method 1: Change Player Limit Using the RocketNode Panel

  1. Log in to the RocketNode Game Panel.

  2. Select your Don’t Starve Together server.

  3. Stop the server from the Overview tab.

  4. Go to the Configuration tab, then select Startup.

  5. Find the MAX PLAYERS field.

  6. Replace the current number (e.g., 16) with your desired player count.

    • For small groups, 2–6 is recommended.
    • For community servers, 8–16 works well.
    • For large servers (20+), make sure your plan has enough RAM to support it.
  7. Return to the Overview tab and start your server.

Method 2: Change Player Limit via Config File

  1. Go to the File Manager tab in your panel.
  2. Navigate to: /DoNotStarveTogether/config/server/cluster.ini
  3. Locate the line: max_players = 16
  4. Change the value to your desired player count, for example: max_players = 8
  5. Start the server again from the Overview tab.

Performance Tips

  • The number of players impacts CPU and RAM usage.
  • We recommend 3–4 GB RAM for up to 12 players, and 6 GB+ for 16 or more.
  • Keep mod count in mind — more players with more mods increases resource load.
